Refers to social conventions and expectations of how women are expected to look and to act.  Traditional norms of femininity dictate that women aspire to a narrow vision of beauty that are based on whiteness and thinness and appealing to heterosexual men’s desires, and that women should act in stereotyped ways such as being emotional, polite, quiet, heterosexual, and not feel or act on their sexual desires.
